Palu - Rector of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Palu, Central Sulawesi, Prof. Dr. KH. Sagaf S Pettalongi MPd said that lectures and academic support and services at the campus had recovered a year after the tsunami hit the college.
"Since October 2018, lectures at IAIN Palu have gradually recovered. That has included administrative services and academic support activities," said Prof. Dr. KH. Sagaf S Pettalongi M.Pd, in Palu, Monday.
IAIN Palu became one of the worst buildings affected by the tsunami on September 28, 2018. The disaster that struck made IAIN Palu suffered a loss of more than Rp. 100 billion.
Most of the assets in the form of lecture buildings, rectorates, ICT, LPM and LP2M offices, study centers, and sports facilities including administration and work equipment as well as cooling machines were destroyed by the tsunami.
But that does not diminish the spirit of the rector and the academic community component to restore the role and function of IAIN Palu as a strategic institution that builds a civilization of human resources in Central Sulawesi.
" IAIN Palu as one of the affected by the disaster and tsunami has taken valuable lessons from the disaster, and made the disaster as a starting point for awakening and developing the IAIN Palu to move forward," said Prof. Sagaf Pettalongi.
At present, the rehabilitation and reconstruction activities of IAIN Palu are ongoing. The Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Public Works, involving SOEs, rehabilitated and reconstructed six lecture buildings with a capacity of 54 classes.
Currently lectures have taken place in the building. Lectures no longer take place in emergency classes. In addition to the building, PUPR will also build other buildings such as libraries and other buildings affected by the disaster, and rebuild supporting facilities such as sports and parks.
Apart from PUPR, IAIN Palu uses a budget sourced from the APBD in the IAIN Palu DIPA to undertake the construction of several buildings such as the rectorate and ICT, as well as rehabilitation of lecture buildings.
"Therefore, IAIN Palu will continue to improve and develop itself to be more advanced, including transforming into the Datokarama Palu State Islamic University (UIN)," said Prof. Sagaf.
Sagaf said, being an UIN, IAIN Palu will be more free to provide educational services for the community, especially Central Sulawesi and the City of Palu. Because not only organizing religious study programs, but also will hold general study programs.
"With the main concept of scientific integration, between science and religion. IAIN Palu will realize the philosophy and scientific paradigm with the concept of" Tower of Science "," said this Islamic Education Management Expert.
Previously, the General Director of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religion, Prof. Dr. Kamaruddin Amin, said that in 2020, the Ministry of Religion will rebuild several lecture buildings and academic administration service buildings for IAIN Palu.
"In 2020, the Ministry of Religion will build several buildings funded through the State Sharia Securities (SBSN) to reconstruct the IAIN Palu," he said.
He mentioned that IAIN Palu is a strategic Ministry of Religion asset in Central Sulawesi to develop superior human resources now and in the future.
"The existence of the IAIN Palu is very significant so that all of us have the same commitment to restore and even develop the IAIN Palu after the disaster," he said.
In 2019, the Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Religion, gave IAIN Palu a budget of Rp23 billion from SBSN for the construction of two lecture buildings built in Pombewe Village, Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency.
